Terms and Conditions

This is an English translation of the Spanish original. If the two versions differ, the Spanish version prevails.
What we most want you to know before subscribing: the Betty number we assign you is part of the service, not your property, and today it cannot be transferred to another provider. If you cancel, you lose it. Keep that in mind before posting it in a listing or printing it on anything.
1. Who we are and what you accept
Betty is a service of WILSON DAVID ALMECIGA (Bogotá D.C., Colombia). By downloading the app, creating a link or using the service, you accept these terms. If you disagree with any of them, don't use Betty.
You must be 18 or older to subscribe.
2. What Betty does
Betty is an automated assistant that answers phone calls for you. We assign you a number where you can receive calls; when someone calls, Betty answers, asks who is calling and what it's about, takes the message and delivers it to you in the app with a transcript, a summary and a classification of the call.
Betty does not replace your phone line, does not make or receive emergency calls, and cannot be used to reach emergency numbers such as 911 or 123. Always keep a regular phone line available.
3. Your account
Your account is created automatically when you open the app and lives on the device. There are no passwords or usernames: you are responsible for the phone where your session is open.
From Settings → My account you can link it to your Apple or Google account so you can recover it if you change phones. If you don't link it and you lose the device, you lose access to your links and messages, and there is no way to give them back to you: we don't store any other data that could identify you.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → My account → Delete my account. Deletion is immediate and permanent. Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription: you do that in the store where you purchased it.
4. The Betty number
This is the clause most worth reading slowly:
- The number we assign you is part of the service while your plan is active. It is not your property.
- It is not portable. Today there is no technical way to move it to another provider. If the service ends, the number is lost.
- If you cancel, if your subscription lapses for non-payment, or if you delete your account, we release the number after a waiting period and it may be assigned to someone else.
- We may need to change your number for reasons beyond our control — a decision by the carrier or the regulator, for example. If that happens, we will let you know as far in advance as possible.
So: before posting your Betty number in a classified ad, a sign or printed material, keep in mind that it depends on keeping the service active.
5. Plans, quota and billing
- The service is purchased as a subscription, with a quota of answered calls included in each period.
- The price, the current quota and the length of any trial period are shown in the app before you confirm the purchase. That screen prevails over any figure shown anywhere else.
- If you use up your quota, Betty stops answering until the next period, unless you buy additional calls.
- The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Billing, renewals, refunds and cancellations are handled by the store where you purchased (App Store or Google Play), under its own terms. You cancel from the subscription settings of your store account, not here. We do not process payments and have no access to your payment method.
- We may change prices or quotas going forward. We will let you know before the change applies to your renewal, and you can always cancel.
6. Acceptable use
By using Betty you agree not to:
- Use the service for illegal activities, fraud, harassment, threats or impersonation.
- Publish the Betty number as if it were the line of an organization you don't belong to (a bank, a government agency, a company that isn't yours).
- Use it for mass telemarketing, automated campaigns or any practice that violates commercial communication rules.
- Resell the service or share your account with other people. Having several links with a single subscription is allowed — that's what they're for, one per listing — as long as they are all yours.
- Attempt to breach, overload or reverse engineer the service.
- Publish third parties' recordings in a way that violates their rights. The message is for you; sharing it is your responsibility.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules, and in serious cases do so without prior notice.
7. Call recording
Betty tells callers that the call is answered by an assistant and may be recorded. That notice is an essential part of the service: you cannot ask us to turn it off. How those recordings are handled is described in the privacy policy.
8. What Betty does not guarantee
- The scam classification is an aid, not a verdict. Betty may flag a legitimate call as suspicious, or miss a real scam. The decision to answer, call back, share information or pay for something is still yours. Don't rely blindly on the classification.
- Transcripts and summaries are generated by an automated system and may contain errors, including misheard names, figures and numbers. When something matters, listen to the audio.
- The service depends on third-party phone networks. There may be interruptions, calls that don't come through or poor audio quality for reasons beyond our control.
- "Guardian mode" (forwarding calls from your personal line to Betty) depends on your carrier. It does not work on every network and is not part of what we guarantee with the plan.
9. Liability
Betty is provided "as is". To the extent permitted by Colombian law, we are not liable for indirect damages, lost profits or lost opportunities arising from a call that didn't come through, an incomplete message or a wrong classification. Our liability will not exceed what you have paid for the service in the last 12 months.
Nothing in this section limits the rights granted to you by the Colombian Consumer Statute or liability for willful misconduct or gross negligence.
10. Termination
You can stop using Betty whenever you want by canceling the subscription in your store and deleting your account from the app. We may end the service if you break these terms, or if we stop operating; in that case we will give you reasonable notice so you can change any number you have published.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. If the change is significant, we will let you know in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Betty after that date means you accept them.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Colombia. Any dispute will be submitted to the competent courts of Bogotá D.C., without prejudice to consumer protection mechanisms before the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce.
